Google
Did You Get All the Good Keywords? Are You Sure?

If you are an advertiser with pay per click (PPC) services, you know one of the keys to a successful campaign is finding the right keywords. You also know that the ‘right’ keywords aren’t necessarily the most popular or the most obvious. The most obvious keywords to you are often the most obvious to everyone else as well.

As a result, you rack your brain trying to come up with words that are appropriate, but not obvious; popular, but not expensive; useful, yet not mainstream. The search for such keywords can be strokes of genius or hair-pulling nightmares.

Google has come up with a new search tool that can alleviate, if not eliminate the frustration with trying to generate a good keyword list. Found at http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en Google’s suggestion tool will automatically prompt popular searches similar to the words you type into the search box. Not only will the tool suggest other search terms using your word, but it will also tell you approximately how many results there are for each search term.

For example, if you type in the keyword “shoes,” you’ll find that there are over 87 million results for the word “shoes.” You’ll also find that there are also over 17 million results for the word “shoe.” This is a friendly reminder to use both singular and plural versions of keywords. Even more useful, when you dig a little deeper you’ll find that “shoes running” has over 8 million results and “shoes athletic” has over 3 million results. These terms may be obvious to you, but at some point you’ll come across a term that completely slipped your mind.

One drawback to Google’s tool is that it doesn’t give the number of people actually searching for the term. Such popularity is obviously valuable to

know. Nevertheless, you’ll be able to see at a glance a list of similar words and phrases compared to your original search term. As a result, now you can type in your most obvious keywords and let Google do some of the brain storming for you.

Remember, be good to yourself and never underestimate the power associated with the intensity of your passion.
